"Second to none"
Primary education commenced in Calen in 1925 with the appointment of Miss Honoria Doherty as the first Head Teacher. In 1964, a secondary department was added to school so Calen became a P-10 school and students had to move elsewhere to complete years 11 and 12. In 1980 a pre-school was added and the next year, a swimming pool was constructed.
The school year of 1990 welcomed the first intake of year 11 and 12 students and since that time students have been able to choose from a diverse range of vocational and academic subjects. Our students have successfully transitioned into trades such as construction, diesel fitting, electrical and plumbing or to professions such as accounting, aviation, business management, engineering, graphic design, information technology, law, medical imaging, nursing and teaching.
Our enrolment has averaged around two hundred students, with an even split between primary and secondary students.
With C and K Kindergarten on our campus we are collaborating to support the early learning transition into our college.
