The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week is being held from the 18th -24th of August 2018. This event celebrates Australian children’s literature and highlights the importance of reading. The theme for this years’ Book Week is “Find Your Treasure”.
To celebrate Book Week, primary students are invited to come dressed as a character from one of their favourite books on Friday the 24th August. A short parade will be held in the morning, then individual activities will take place back in the classrooms throughout the day. As part of the celebration, students are asked to bring their favourite book to school on the day to share with their classmates.
Please do not feel you have to go out and purchase a costume, often the most creative and unique costumes are those made from recycled materials. Have your child look through the characters in the books to see if they already have something in their cupboard they can make work. It might be as simple as making a mask and dressing all in brown to come as the bear from “The Very Cranky Bear”, or a striped shirt and beanie for Wally, from the “Where’s Wally?” books. Most of all, have fun!
