Naidoc day

On the last day of term 2, our school celebrated NAIDOC, due to the event being during the school holidays. Our students were fortunate to learn the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history/culture from a number of traditional elders from Mackay. On the day students were involved in boomerang throwing, weaving, scavenger hunt as well as dot-painting on wooden boomerangs and animals. There were over twenty prizes including hats, water bottles and beanies/caps given to students. There was also a free BBQ lunch and cake provided to everyone who attended on the day. Overall it was a great day and I’d like to give a special thanks to Aunty Marion Healy, Aunty Rosleen Bourne and Ben Yasserie from Mer Bar Wakai Mackay, as well as Tenneal Burns from the Deadly Choices Program for contributing to our NAIDOC Day. I’d also like to thank all staff, the student teachers who were here last term, as well as the students for their throughout the day.
