LAN program for 2015

17/02/2015

As you may already be aware, our junior secondary students are involved in the LAN ( Literacy and Numeracy) program this year.  This program is a new opportunity for students to receive targeted teaching to address identified strengths / weaknesses away from the curriculum.

The LAN program gives students 3 lessons per week where they can “plug the gaps” in their knowledge or be extended to build upon existing strengths with two goals in mind:

• To help them to improve their NAPLAN results

• To better enable them to succeed in all their school subjects

Currently, students across years 7-9 are involved in a 5-week course aimed at improving writing skills, with a specific focus on improving students’ use of paragraphing using the ‘PEEL’ method.  This method will allow students to improve their written work, which will have flow-on benefits across all subject areas.

The LAN program is a first for Calen, allowing for the teaching of specific skills to the students who need them, regardless of their year level.  We look forward to working with both students and parents to make this program a success for our students.

If you have any questions about the LAN program, please contact David Keeble at school on 4949 7333.
