COURSE OVERVIEW:
|
|
English Communications is a useful subject for students who do not need the Authority subject, English, to gain access to tertiary study eg TAFE, Traineeships etc. The course will provide a full range of communication situations to study, with less emphasis on ex tended texts like novels and more on everyday and work-related language.
|

|
COURSE OUTLINE:
|
|
Across the two years of this course, students will be involved in reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing in relation to a wide range of everyday texts in order to become effective thinkers and communicators.
|
|
The units of work will build key skills in being critical users of the texts around us and in being able to read, write and speak effectively in a variety of everyday situations.
|
|
|
|
STUDY REQUIREMENTS:
|
|
Students will be expected to participate in discussion and debate, and speak in groups and individually and learn to read and view critically.
Students will need to work effectively independently and in groups.
|
|
|
|
ASSESSMENT SUMMARY:
|
|
The course will use a variety of assessment items to determine levels of achievement including:
|
- letters, faxes, emails
- explanations
- reviews
|
- examinations
- speeches or presentations
- a range of skills which are required in the workplace.
|
|
Students will be expected to word process all assignment work, with a high level of skill.
|
|
|
|
RESOURCES:
|
|
Students will need access to texts and the library. Internet access is also useful, but can be provided through the school.
